Last week I was privileged to be at Lily Dale, NY participating in another one of Sharon Klingler’s practical and informative seminars (“Psychic summer camp” as I like to refer to it). Besides the choices of classes and seminars that Lily Dale has to offer during the summer season there are healing services, message services and special events like concerts and Sweat Lodges.
Lily Dale NY is a small picturesque community nestled on Cassadega Lake near Lake Erie. There are about 35 registered mediums on the grounds, each with unique attractive signs to go along with their pretty, spiritually decorated homes. Located in the heart of the Western New York snow belt, Lily Dale is quiet for most of the year except during the summer season where on average 250,000 tourists visit to partake in the powerful psychic energies and informative summer programs.
Sharon’s class was especially good this year and I got some extra practice by doing Spirit messages in front of large groups on numerous occasions. Though it was an exhausting week, I made significant progress and learned a lot in a short period of time. The experience was so profound in fact that I left there feeling like a transformed “new and improved” medium. Along side my rapid growth was reflection and fond remembrance of my early days as a Medium, when I was “care free“, and not much was expected of me. And to think how easy it could have been for me to miss out on this calling which has defined my life for the last 10 years! This story is yet another example of how life can spin on a dime and how everything could have been completely different if it wasn’t for “A Simple Twist of Fate” (Bob Dylan).
The year is 2001, the day of my first professional Spirit Reading. Leading up to this day I was beginning to make connections with the Spirit world, but was in a certain amount of denial about it. My very first connection was with my brother in Spirit, and shortly afterwards I started making occasional connections for my Tarot clients, but I was not seeing myself at all as a communicator. I respected the art of mediumship very much and was impressed by those who could do it but I did not see the value in it, and I definitely did not see it as “my path”. During the months leading up to this event, however, certain things were happening which made me wonder whether or not I was really starting to sense the other side. So when a gentleman called Quest Bookshop asking if there was anyone at the shop who could talk to the dead (the only such request I had in my 4 years of reading there) I decided to take the reading; for a lark…
In the moments leading up to my first ever mediumship reading I went into the back room to meditate and connect with my guides. I did not know who my guides were at the time, but I knew that they were around me so I stated: “Guides: if I am able to get specific facts that can be validated around this client’s dead relatives then I will pursue and study the path of mediumship, if not I will simply let it go and focus on my other forms of intuitive readings“. It did not matter one way or the other to me so I remained completely unattached. Shortly afterwards the gentleman walked into the small, old-fashioned metaphysical books store. I took him to the back auditorium where I do the readings. I then shook his hand to begin and in that instant I immediately got “father”. When he sat down I told him: “Your father, or a man who helped raise you is here. He is a tallish dark haired man. I’m feeling a sharp pain in my chest, and I think he passed from a heart attack. I’m seeing the number 10. I’m seeing the letters R-E-N. I’m seeing an airplane”. I then paused and looked to him for a response. To this the gentleman replied “My father was tall, dark haired and he died 10 yrs. ago from a heart attack. His name starts with the letters R-E-N and he was an airplane pilot!”
Wow! Loud and Clear!!! Between you and me I think there was an element of beginners luck going on but boy, did that ever get my attention! Thank you Spirit! I have my answer!!
As the reading progressed I picked up that my client and his dad were distant and had unresolved issues. As well the father rarely expressed his love or affection to his son. Due to his father‘s sudden and unexpected passing they never got a chance to make up or work through their issues while he was in the living. My client listened as his reading unfolded; he wept and confided and when the reading was over he summed it all up by saying that for 10 years he had carried a heavy burden of guilt and pain around his father’s death but after his 1 hour reading he could finally let all that weight go forever. Double wow!! I not only learned that I had the talent to be a medium, I also learned about the life changing benefits that medium readings can offer , all during one lovely spring afternoon which changed the course of my life forever.
